Using the RailDriver with RailSim

Software

Currently Supported: Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit)

Download: Installation Package v. 1.2.0.8 (6.2 MB)

    Contains:
  • RailDriver® Calibration v. 1.0.2.7
  • RD MWII v. 1.0.1.2
By downloading this software, you agree to our Terms & Conditions.

Installation

  1. Install Rail Simulator.
  2. Download and install both the mk1 and the mk2patches from RailSimulator.com. Unfortunately, we do not currently have a link to these available.
  3. Download and install the rd.rsrw.exe installation file linked above.
  4. Go to your desktop and delete the RDMWII icon that the install file placed there
  5. Download and install the step one patch.
  6. Download and install the step two patch.
  7. If you're running Windows XP, double-click on the new red RDMWII icon that was placed on your desktop. If you are running Windows Vista 32-bit, be sure to right-click on the icon and choose "Run As Administrator," instead of double-clicking.
  8. Load Rail Simulator. Go to Gameplay, Options and change the Control Model to Expert. Save the settings.
  9. Go back to the main menu and choose your route or scenario. Once that loads, select your train.
  10. Push the Run/Stop button on the RailDriver. The screen on the RD console should change to "000."
  11. Play!

Note: If you have not installed everything to the default locations (in the standard folders, on your C: drive), you may need to edit your ReportConfig.txt file located (by default) at drive:\Program Files\PI Engineering\RailDriver MWII\XKeyDevices\Vid05F3Pid00D2\ReportConfig.txt to reflect the true path to your RailDriver.dll. Please contact tech support if you need any help doing this.

Reprogramming

To reprogram the blue buttons on your RailDriver console, please do the following:

  1. Right click on RD MWII icon in the system icon tray.
  2. You should now see the MacroWorks II programming window.
  3. From here select the button you wish to program and record your keystrokes, click OK when finished.
  4. When finished programming your keys close the RD MWII interface and you’re done.

Common Problems

When I click on RDMWII, nothing happens!
If you've installed both of the patches, and everything has been installed to the default locations, then open your task manager (usually, by hitting ctrl+alt+del on your keyboard). If RailDriverLauncher.exe is running, under your "Processes" tab, end the task. Try again.

Please note that opening RDMWII doesn't open a window, but places an icon in your system tray (that area near your clock) so it can run in the background.

The levers on the controller work, but the blue buttons do not.
If you're running Windows Vista, be sure you are running RDMWII as an administrator. You can right-click on your RDMWII icon and choose "Properties." Go to the tab that says "Compatability" and check the "Run as Administrator" box.

Some of my blue keys work and some of them do not.
Usually, this simply requires a key-up/key-down macro to be programmed. Do this:

  1. Right click on the RDMWII icon near your clock and select the RailDriver. This will launch RDMWII.
  2. Open a button to program either by pressing it on the controller or clicking on it on-screen.
  3. Hit "Q" (for example -- it can be any key or combination you want to program) on your normal keyboard.
  4. Go to the Insert menu and choose Key Down.
  5. Go to the Insert menu and choose On Release.
  6. Click inside the lower box that has just appeared.
  7. Hit "Q" again (once again, just for example!)
  8. Go to the Insert menu and choose Key Up.
  9. Make sure the arrows are pointing at each other.
  10. Click OK.
